Terra Alta

GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION AND INFORMATION OF INTEREST It is located to the west of the province of Tarragona, between the Ebro river and the border with Aragon. Gandesa is the capital of the region. The traditional wine festival that is celebrated on the first weekend of November is famous in the region. In this festival, the main dish of the region, the “clotxa”, stands out, which pairs perfectly with the excellent wines of the area. CLIMATE It is Mediterranean with continental influences. It has high hours of insolation, winds like the Cierzo keep the grapes healthy and ripening properly, the Garbi from the Mediterranean refreshes the hot summer. SOIL, VINES AND MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF THEIR WINES. In general, clayey soils abound, poor in organic matter. The vine is planted on natural terraces and, as rainfall is very low, it is usually pruned very short so that it has creepers that take advantage of the moisture in the soil. Red grapes include Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Garnacha Tintorera and Syrah; among the whites the Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo and Perellada. Among the types of wine we have rancid wine, liqueur wine, mistela and traditional sweet wine. All of them are corporeal, aromatic and fruity.
